We wanted to let everyone know we have begun daily English translations of Sanrio’s massively stupendous character Gudetama’s single frame comics. They are an awful lot of fun and besides being super kawaii you might accidentally learn something about Gudetama, Sanrio or Japan. You can follow us @7HappyCreations

Gudetama Party @ Puroland

Gudetama is an amazing character created by Sanrio. He is not always funny and often he is grumpy. Japanese people say he is a typical middle-aged man. I think they say ojisan (middle aged man) because ojisan are very special in our comedic hearts. There are gacha dedicated to the different types of ojisan. Gudetama is another side of that personality that squeaks out from time to time in funny one line jokes or pained commentary.  We recently visited Puroland in Tokyo’s Tama City. This month they have special shows, events and attractions dedicated to Gudetama-san. When you come to Tokyo you must see Puroland. Whether you have children or not Puroland is a day filled with fun and laughter.

Gudetama Loves You! (In his own way)

Below, we are posting some of the comics we have translated and tweeted recently. I’ll give some extra information about some of them to help non-Japanese readers know what every Japanese knows. “Gudetama is lovable and charming.”

Gudetama is saying “Cool Biz” to remind people of the program the Japanese government put into place back in 2005 to conserve energy usage. The program began that summer with government offices and was so successful it quickly spread to the private sector. Workers were allowed to come to work in more casual attire. That is quite the relief because living in Japan in the summer can be compared to living in a terrarium.

I think Gudetama is happy with any award he receives. He does not do much so…if he is offered one he takes it. However, maybe an Oscar would be nicer if it did not look so much like Gidetama’s sidekick, Niseitama-san.

Summer is the time for suikawari in Japan, or watermelon splitting. It’s a fun time and people love suika on hot summer days. Gudetama-san is reminding us he is around all year long and we can split him open anytime. Aaaaahhhh.

This one made us laugh so much. We were curious what the San Rio Olympics Committee were passing out to the winners in this year’s games.
