Halloween Horror Aqua at Sunshine City’s Aquarium

Sunshine City is a mega-mall in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro ward. Sort of in central Tokyo, Ikebukuro is a convenient hub to get to places all over the city and all over Japan for that matter. Ikebukuro is quite the place for all kinds of stores, shops, restaurants, hotels and night life. Not far from the east exit is Sunshine City. A huge megaplex that caters to international travelers and Japanese alike. WE LOVE Sunshine City for many reasons.  One of those many reasons is their Aquarium. It’s a very special aquarium with multiple exhibits, tanks of incredible sea life…and this Halloween, the aquarium at Sunshine City brings a special tale of HORROR, the HORROR AQUA to Ikebukuro.

The Curse of the Water Comb

“Ura” (浦）is a deep cove and a place where tides flow in and collect all the things, living and dead the tides wash in. Therefore, various things drift into Ura. However, “things” are not the only creatures collected there. Minds of humans are also collected there, too. There is a Japanese word “urasabishii” (lonely). Ura in Urasabishii is 浦. “Ura” (浦）means not only “a deep cove” but also “a mind”. Ura is also a place where human minds end up being collected century after century.

The local legends have grown from tales told by fathers and mothers to their children. No one ever goes near that ura, unless it is by accident or they become lost. It is rumored the ghost of a woman appears there. That is the ghost of the woman called Shizuko. Shizuko dropped her precious comb her lover gave her, and after she ran after it into the dark and chilly waters of the cove…she was killed, never to return. They say that Shizuko has been wondering about the sea along those dark coves and inlets looking for the comb until this very day. At night, when the moon is full and the hour is at its darkest moment, you can see the ghost of Shizuko as she searches for her comb.

However this is not the story that stays in the faraway cove… From now until October 31st there will be a special Halloween exhibit at Sunshine’s aquarium. Creepy and scary and loads of fun.

There are special meals provided for those brave enough to enter the cove.

And special Halloween treats you may carry off with you. Shizuko’s gnarled and bloody fingers and her ghostly cookies.

The Producer of this event is famous for making entertaining and fun attractions like Curse of the Water Comb all over Japan.
